Out of the port, into the Eternal City
We wake up docked in Italy, and by nine we're on a train gliding along the Tyrrhenian coast toward Rome. Forty-seven minutes later, we step off at Roma Termini.

The Day
09:15 · The Coast Train
We wake up docked in Italy, and by nine we're on a train gliding along the Tyrrhenian coast toward Rome. Forty-seven minutes later, we step off at Roma Termini.

10:20 · Piazza di Trevi
We start where most people only get to stand in a crowd. There's a small rooftop lounge tucked above the Piazza di Trevi with tall windows that look straight down onto the fountain. Coffee and a proper Italian breakfast, watching the water below, before the day even really begins.

11:15 · Monti
Cobblestone streets, ivy on the walls, and block after block of little shops. Leather, ceramics, jewelry, linens — all made by people whose studios are right behind the counter. This is where we find the things we bring home.

12:00 – 12:45 · Colle Oppio
Two minutes up into Colle Oppio park, framed by umbrella pines, with the midday sun on the stone. Elevated views straight across to the Colosseum. This is the photograph.

13:00 – 16:00 · Via della Polveriera
At one o'clock, a chef is waiting for us. The kitchen is ours alone for three hours, and by the end of it we'll have made pizza from scratch, folded our own ravioli, and churned real gelato. Wine flows the entire time. Then we sit down together and eat everything we made. You'll leave with the recipes — and the ability to say you learned to make pasta in Rome.

The Table
A private cellar kitchen set for our group — rolling pins, wine glasses, and antipasti waiting before we even tie the aprons on.

18:25 · Back On Board
A short ride back to Termini, the train along the coast, and we're back on the ship by 6:25 pm — with full stomachs, full camera rolls, and bags full of things we found ourselves.
